Understory Layer

Understory Layer

The Understory Layer is one of the lower levels of the rainforest.

Here, very little sunlight gets through because of the thick, overlapping trees of the canopy layer, making it very dark.

This means that shrubs, young trees, and vines grow here as they cannot grow very big.

It is warm, damp, and sheltered.

Large leafed shrubs that are suited to the warm and dampness grow here.

The plants which grow here tend to have larger leaves so they can soak up as much of the little sunlight as they can.
