Scarlet Macaw

A Macaw is a large, colourful parrot that lives in emergent layer of the rainforest.

Macaws have certain adaptations which helps them to live and survive here:-

• They have large, powerful beaks which helps them to crack open nuts and seeds easily. They also have a large, scaly tongue with a bone through the middle to help them tap through fruit to eat.

• Macaws also have sharp, claws on their toes to help them grip to the tree branches. This helps them grip and hold on so they can examine fruit, nuts and seeds they eat.

• They also have large, colourful and strong wings to help them fly easily from tree to tree, hunting for food and escaping predators.
