Forest Floor

Forest Floor

The forest floor is the lowest level of the rainforest.

It is dark, damp, and hot here.

Only 2% of sunlight gets through the thick canopy trees and the understory to reach the forest floor.

Large leafed shrubs and new trees (saplings) grow in the small patches of sunlight it does get.

It is mainly covered with dead leaves which have fallen from the above trees, making it a great place for insects to live.
