Emergent Layer
The Emergent Layer is the very top layer of the rainforest.
This is where the most sunlight hits, and the tallest of the trees reach.
As it is the very top of the rainforest, it gets lots of sun, lots of rain, and can be very windy too.
Many of the trees found at the emergent layer are evergreen trees - their leaves always stay green, and they are always full. They are thick and waxy as well to stand the strong weather.
The Kapok tree is one of the most common trees found in the emergent layer. It is evergreen and hard, and provides shelter for lots of animals who live up there.
